Woodland Ways in Suffolk

Welcome to Natterer's Wood

Our flagship site - Natterer's Wood
Natterer's Wood is adjacent to Mount Road in Bury St Edmunds.

It is here that you can find us on work party days planting more trees.

You can see our Giant Bat too.

Natterer's Wood Update December 2006

We are making good progress with hedge planting around the at-shaped flower meaddow thanks to an impressive turn-out of volunteers in the last two months.

Two more hedge planting sessisons are planned for 10th December 2006 and 11th February 2007, so that we should make significant progress if all those those good people report for duty and repeat their magnificent performance! Thank you to everyone.

Throughout 2007 there will be regular monthly tree maintenance work parties when the growing trees are weeded, mulched and given a word of encouragement
(...my favourite job).

Natterer's wood is the large open site that runs alongside Mount Road in Bury St. Edmunds, just a short walk from the town centre.

From the easy access footpath that we have
recently installed you get a magnificent view across the
valley to the other side of town.

The principal development. apart from our large tree planting programme,
is the Giant Bat shape that we have excavated into the hillside. This work, recently completed by R & D Construction, will eventually mature
into a new wildflower meadow surrounded by trees.

We hope that it will become a durable, attractive community space
- appreciated by all ages for generations to come.

It is here that you will often find Woodland Ways volunteers planting trees,
keeping the footpaths and general area clear.

Our next project is to site and stock a permanent storage unit here.

This will be our base for woodland maintenance,
as well as our central store for equipment.

Even now, before the trees mature there is plenty to see from the footpath.
Creatures large and small, with plenty of space for children to enjoy the space.
Don't forget to look for the little things too...
